This experience is supported by:

  •      15 years teaching at the college level as both tenure-track and adjunct faculty member, with a consistent record of development and facilitation of successful
              educational experiences and courses of study. Classes taught: Two-Dimensional Design, three-dimensional Design, Introduction to Art Surveys,
              Ceramics I & II, Drawing I & II, Painting I & II.

  •       Studio maintenance and management with 5 different organizations:
            1) Jefferson Community and Technical College – Caretaker of all studio spaces including ceramic studio, Woodworking area and other classroom studios.
            2) Chautauqua Institution School of Art – Ceramic Studio Assistant
            3) Michigan State University – Woodshop Technician
            4) Hannah Community Center of East Lansing – Ceramics Studio Assistant

  •       Winner of the JCTC Faculty Award of Excellence 3 out of the last 5 years.

  •       20 years’ experience Contract Studio Art Educator for local and regional educational organizations, non-profits and businesses.

  •      Raised over 20,000 dollars for art programming, equipment and projects through grant writing, 3 fully funded Fund for the Arts Power2Give proposals and          Kickstarter Crowdsourcing campaigns.

     Responsibilities: Active participant in all aspects of faculty life at the community college, including teaching multiple courses each semester in studio art and art
    appreciation. I assisted with student advising, transfer assistance, continuing education programs, community service activities, professional development  
    opportunities, and instructional services. I led the Cultural Arts Festival as chair, co-chair or programming-provider over the last 5 years and created numerous
    exhibitions, displays, events and art sales for the Downtown campus. I also sponsored the Art Club, and I make a mean bulletin board.

 Selected Awards, Accomplishments and Service

 
Visiting Artist with Jefferson County Public Schools
  • 2016 - I met with all  2nd and 3rd grade classes at Hawthorne Elementary over the course of 2 weeks. I designed a hands-on biodiversity project based on
         marine life and South American Folk Monsters. The project culminated with a collaborative mural that also involved many students from all classes.

  • 2014 -Kickstarter Campaign to raise funds for collaborative learning murals with  Hawthorne Elementary School. Students and I created a large East meets West learning mural and I designed a teacher’s resource guide to assist in the mural’s interpretation.

  • 2012-13 - I ran the Field Elementary after school art and mural club. Working with over100 students during the school year, we did a wide array of multi-media projects and created an art history mash-up mural in the cafeteria.

  • 2012-2013 -Planned and Implemented an afterschool art club that culminated in a large Art-Historical Mash-Up mural in the cafeteria.

Studio-Building Initiatives
  • 2013 - Ran a successful Power2Give Fund campaign to purchase a Printing Press and created a printmaking studio for JCTC’s first ever Printmaking Class!

  • 2012   Ran a successful Power2Give Fund campaign to overhaul and expand the JCTC ceramics studio. Funds raised purchased a new kiln, slab roller, extruder, 5 wheels, glaze mixing tools and expendables.

  • 2012                Art + Activism Grant, Kentucky Foundation for Women
                                 This grant funded the With Child: Art and Parenting project, a curatorial collaboration between myself and Artist Skylar Smith
                                 which culminated in an exhibition with Spalding University.
